‘Magna Carta, King John and the Knights of Kent’ Exhibition

September 12th – 6th October in Westerham Library. After touring Kent Libraries, Sevenoaks Museum, Allington Castle and Lullingstone Castle, this exhibition returns to mark the 800th anniversary of the reinstatement of Stephen Langton as Archbishop of Canterbury, completing the story of the saving of Magna Carta. It outlines the part played by Sir Thomas de Canville of Westerham in helping to secure the revival of the Charter which King John had revoked within weeks of sealing it at Runnymede. The King thereby tipped England into a bitter civil war.
