Country Fayre & Horticultural Autumn Show

Saturday 10th September 2022 11am – 5pm

  with Westerham Horticultural Society

Put the date in your diary for 10th Sept 2022

This page is being updated and the lineup may change.

Read Bill’s review of  the 2021 Fayre here and see the Flickr photo album here.

Westerham Town Partnership and Westerham Horticultural Society will be celebrating all that is country crafts, activities and produce, alongside local vintage, retro and fashion stalls with A Country Fayre on The Green.

The Westerham Horticultural Society
will hold their Autumn Show on the Green with the very best of autumn harvest.  The competition is open to everyone, and details on how to enter can be found on the Horticultural Society website

Visit the stall of the Kent Wildlife Trust to collect the wildlife quiz questions (answers will be found on ten stalls around the Green) and learn about Forest Skills. Maybe you would like to learn a little about how to weave willow. Ever wondered what goes on inside a beehive? Wow the family with a visit to our Westerham bee-keepers who have an observation hive that you can see inside. And you can buy some delicious organic honey too.

Blacksmith at work

Mutton Chop Forge is a traditional blacksmith based in South Nutfield, Surrey. producing a wide range of contemporary and bespoke items, historical restorations, as well as doing everyday items, metal fabrication and welding.  Commissions are welcome.  In addition to my every day work I have a mobile medieval forge, from which I present a living history display of medieval forging techniques

Visit our coconut shy and old-fashioned fairground at the bottom of the Green – you’ll have the ride of your life on the vintage chair-o-plane, they don’t make them like that anymore! Have your seaside photo taken with ‘Aunt Sally’ – you’ll never be dressed on the beach like that again 😉  The Scouts will let you try your hand at games like hoopla, deck quoits and Tin-Pan Alley with prizes to be won. You’ll find the Sea Cadets tombola and you can test your skill at ‘Whip the Cloth’.

Don’t forget it’s a laugh a minute with Punch and Judy at 1 o’clock and 3 o’clock – lots of family fun. Glyn Edwards has been performing with Mr Punch all  his life – for many years on Brighton seafront with the inevitable crocodile and sausages.

At the top corner of the Green by the noticeboard, woodland characters are born. Don’t miss Alasdair Craig from Sussex Chainsaw who created our OWL, SQUIRREL and OTTER who will be back to demonstrate his skills. Watch him carve birds, fish and owls from a fallen tree using nothing but a chain-saw.

Here is the video from 2016 when Alasdair was adding the final touches to the otter that now lives by the bridge over the River Darent into King George’s Field.

Sadly, our friend John Burbage, the ‘forest bodger’, with his traditional pole lathe, was already booked elsewhere for our date  Maybe next year…
